The novel “The Latinist” by the American writer Mark Prins tells a story which, though fictional, could easily happen, so that it will speak in particularly direct ways to everyone familiar with the academic environment, especially classicists. In this GIKS roundtable we are going to touch upon different themes raised by the novel: abuse of power, sexual harassment, and receptions of Ovid. But the text also propagates an image of Latin literature and the discipline of Classics that deserve discussion.
